Forex Market Hours

Traders often ask what the Forex market hours are. This is much different from the normal American stock market hours, technically this market is open 24 hours a day. The Forex market allows you to trade any time of day or night. That doesn’t mean you should trade at any hour, you should find the best time to trade within the market. It does mean if you need to sell a Forex position in the middle of the night, then you can.

These are the actual Forex Market Hours:

New York is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST
Tokyo is open from 7:00 pm to 4:00 am EST
Sydney is open from 5:00 pm to 2:00 am EST
London is open from 3:00 am to 12:00 noon EST

Which times have the most action? Since volatility and volume are paramount to forex trading these are the times you want to be trading. The times in which forex markets overlap are the best times for trading. Since there are more traders, volume, market action and interest during the overlap times, these are your best chances of day trading the forex market for profit.

Forex Market Hours That Overlap:

The New York and London Forex markets overlap between 8:00 AM and 12:00 Noon EST
The Sydney and Tokyo Forex markets overlap between 7:00 PM and 2:00 AM EST
The London and Tokyo Forex markets overlap between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM EST
